Cross-sectional Analysis of GIZ Evaluations in the Water Sector

FAKT is conducting a cross-sectional analysis of around 40 GIZ central project evaluations in the water sector. The assignment consolidates evidence across a diverse portfolio of water projects, countries and intervention approaches in order to identify which approaches contribute to change, under which institutional and contextual conditions they are effective and where recurring implementation or sustainability challenges arise. It examines outcomes and impact contributions across different water sub-sectors, while also exploring implications for indicators, integration and exit strategies. The analysis provides a robust evidence base for GIZ’s 2026 evaluation reporting and supports the further development of GIZ’s water portfolio.
