Rehabilitation and Modernisation of Vocational Training in the Province of Aceh
The tsunami that hit the province of Aceh and the Island of Nias in December 2004 brought devastation at a huge scale. Among the destruction were numerous vocational schools.
This project, carried out in cooperation KfW, InWEnt, CIM and DED, took a comprehensive approach of rehabilitating and modernising vocational training. Besides rehabilitation of infrastructure the project carried out a comprehensive programme for professional staff training, built capacities of non-formal vocational training institutions and established a new branch for training of professional teachers in the University of Aceh.
Besides these activities the project addressed the issue of reintegration of ex-combatants and conflict affected communities. It trained more than 900 individuals in skill areas with a proven market demand and facilitated economic reintegration through a range of employment promotion measures. FAKT was contracted to develop and partly implement a result based monitoring system and to develop the capacity of non-formal training providers.
