Study Brief ‘Agroecology as an Approach to Resilient Agriculture and Food Systems: Lessons Learned and Ways Forward’

FAKT carried out an exploratory study on the role of agroecological approaches in strengthening the resilience of rural communities, landscapes, and food systems in the Global South. Commissioned by BMZ through GIZ’s Sector Project on Rural Development, the study brought together insights from scientific literature and practical experience across a wide range of initiatives on four continents. It shows how agroecology can build ecological and climate resilience, strengthen economic systems and food value chains, and support socio-political resilience.

Covering 61 projects in 26 countries, the publication distils key findings into three resilience pathways and six practical levers for action. On this basis, the research team developed evidence-based conclusions and concrete recommendations to support project design, programme implementation, and policy dialogue on resilient agriculture and food systems.

The publication is available on the Adaptation Community platform.
