Study on the Existing Synergies between National Biodiversity and Climate Policy Frameworks
FAKT supported two GIZ projects, namely “Strengthening National Implementation of Global Biodiversity Targets” and “Euroclima – Promoting a ‘Green and Just Transition’ in Latin America and the Caribbean” in elaborating a study on the improvement of the alignment between national biodiversity and climate agendas. The study analysed the governance systems, sectoral implementation, financing as well as monitoring and reporting of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) and the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The study also considered cross-cutting aspects such as the participation of indigenous peoples and local communities (IP&LCs) and gender issues. The global report was based on 11 national studies conducted in Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Indonesia, Lao PDR, Madagascar, Mexico, and Peru.
The report was co-authored by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and was launched by GIZ together with the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership at a side event during the UN climate negotiations in June 2025.
