Support to Income and Employment Growth in Northern Afghanistan

German development support activities concentrate on six Northern provinces in Afghanistan. In recent years, a number of projects made efforts to reanimate the war-shattered rural and urban economy, working in the fields of rural and agricultural development, rehabilitation of infrastructure and strengthening small and medium enterprises.

Following a study of the German government, aimed at pooling these efforts, GIZ put together a review and planning mission.  Task of this mission was to document results of the present efforts and to outline and plan a joint intervention, aiming at income and employment growth for the predominantly young and rural people of the region.

FAKT supported this mission with an expert for rural and agricultural development, whose task consisted in formulating adequate measures to upgrade a number of specific agriculture-based value chains.
