The Global Project ‘Mainstreaming EbA – Strengthening Ecosystem-based Adaptation in Planning and Decision-making Processes’

GIZ Global Project ‘Mainstreaming EbA – strengthening ecosystem-based adaptation in planning and decision-making processes’ supports actors at international, national and local level to incorporate ecosystem-based adaptation into policy and planning processes of different sectors. EbA is a people-centric concept within the Nature-based Solutions (NbS) umbrella that aims at enhancing human resilience to climate change. Systematic exchange of knowledge and experiences between governments, institutions, technical experts and other organizations helps to identify the economic, social and ecological advantages of selected EbA measures.

With the help of additional networks – like the Friends of EbA (FEBA) – the EbA project has developed a variety of concepts, strategies, methods and tools to promote EbA and to inform adaptation negotiations, policies, strategies and action plans at the national level and in line with the global processes within three Rio Conventions. The Global Project on Mainstreaming EbA summarised examples of successful inclusion of soils and their ecosystem services into national policies (e.g. NDC, NAP and NBSAP) in a guidebook including clarification of basic terms and concepts and demand-oriented analysis to inspire decision-makers to facilitate the mainstreaming in more national policies.
