Verification/Certification Photovoltaic & Rainwater Harvesting

FAKT was commissioned for an independent verification and certification of the photovoltaic and rainwater harvesting equipment supplied and installed in selected health care facilities in Central and West Equatoria States of South Sudan. The methodology used combined a blend of desk research and a field visit of selected health facilities, stakeholder consultation with health personnel, village health committees and local government officials.

The solar systems provide a much-appreciated service in the health facilities, which benefits staff and patients. The community appreciates the systems very much. Light at night and phone charging are widely used in the facilities. Other uses are developing, like use of lab equipment (e.g. microscopes), fridges, awareness videos. The solar technicians have been crucial for the installation. They will be important in further training of staff and village health committees as well as trouble shooting, especially for the first months of operation. Security for the solar installations seems to be assured as long as the situation in the respective counties is calm and peaceful.

The health facilities experience is an enormous gain on confidence and esteem by the communities surrounding them. They are becoming a community centre and a sign of development, pointing to the future. Community members appreciate the installation of solar systems in “their” facility. Especially women feel the benefits of light during the night for deliveries and are voicing this.
